#17 - Pain-Free Movement and The GOATA Locomotive System with Ricky Stanzi

Matt Grebosky

Ricky Stanzi is a former NFL QB turned movement coach. He played college football at Iowa and started to pursue the understanding of human movement as he transitioned into the NFL. He’s been studying movement since 2011 and is currently teaching the curriculum for the GOATA Locomotive System.

On this episode we discuss:

  • Rick’s NFL background and how his experience in high-level gyms influenced his body, mechanics, and injuries
  • The fundamental patterns of GOATA movement, locomotion and proper mechanics and, in opposition, WOATA patterns that lead to acute and chronic mechanisms of injury
  • My background in GOATA, have I have consumed and understood it, and how I apply it into my lifestyle and exercise routines
  • How your lifestyle and resting postures patterns reflect and influence movement patterns, as exemplified in indigenous cultures vs. modern postures
  • GOATA strength vs. WOATA Strength and their effects on the body
  • A detailed description of what the “bow” and “corner” is
  • Rick’s views on minimalist footwear, cleats, and the surfaces that we walk, run and workout on
